BFI’s new digital infrastructure ensures more efficient, streamlined operations, connecting everyone within their multi-finance firm.
From C-level executives to external business agents, our proposed digital infrastructure ensures true connectivity for the BFI enterprise.
Challenge & objective
Despite its strong market presence, BFI Finance relied heavily on manual processes, which became increasingly unsustainable in a digital-first world. With operations segmented across autonomous branches, efficiency and performance varied significantly. Partnering with McKinsey & Co, we conducted a comprehensive analysis of BFI’s operations and identified key areas for digital transformation. Our solution involved developing five digital products, including user-friendly applications, internal management platforms, and agent apps, as well as a platform to connect merchants and consumers.
Research
At the outset of our engagement with BFI Finance, a crucial first step was to develop a detailed operational flow map. This foundational tool served to lay out the entire landscape of BFI’s workflows, illustrating the complex interactions and processes that define daily operations across various levels of the organization. By providing a visual, holistic review of their operations, the flow map enabled us to identify critical points for intervention and ensured a comprehensive understanding of the interconnected nature of BFI’s activities.

Customer-facing loan applications
In parallel with the discovery phase for internal solutions at BFI, Bamburai spearheaded the development of a customer-facing application process. The primary goals were to simplify the existing process, enhance completion speeds, and minimize drop-off rates, thereby improving overall customer experience and operational efficiency.
Internal agent app (ARE): Streamlining operations and enhancing productivity.
I managed the development of both the CORE Product, focusing on the Footprint Explorer, and the Product Ecosystem. For the CORE Product, I conducted architecture reviews, optimized the home dashboard, streamlined emission data upload and validation, and designed the head office home screen for easy access to plantation information. In the Product Ecosystem, I created and refined the PE Dashboard Home, managed supplier emission data requests, and oversaw the upload of product data along with designing the product landing pages.
External agent app (BA):
Field efficiency and oversight.
The objective of the Business Agent (BA) tool is to seamlessly integrate with the ARE tool to form a comprehensive system that boosts operational efficiency of BFI’s field activities. This tool is crafted to elevate productivity levels among Business Agents by providing them streamlined access to essential data and tools for effectively managing daily activities. It also ensures that management gains real-time oversight of field operations, thereby aligning field activities with BFI’s strategic business goals through enhanced visibility and control.
Consumer and merchant platform
The objective of the Consumer and Merchant Tools is to enhance the efficiency of financial transactions between BFI Finance, merchants, and consumers by digitizing the process. This suite of tools aims to streamline operations, improve real-time communication, and facilitate faster decision-making, ultimately enhancing customer satisfaction and boosting sales for merchants through facilitated financial support.

Gaining deep insights into BFI’s current operations was vital. By uncovering the finer details, our team were able to install a digital eco-system that was truly built for purpose.
One of our biggest challenges was the time we had to deliver a wide range of inter-connected solutions. By utilizing an atomic design system from day one, the Bamburai team were able to repurpose almost 95% of components within our system, speeding up both the design and development process.
